FAQ's
A
Laser Printer Service has tips for keeping your machines in top
condition soon. If you do not see the answer to your question here,
feel free to send us an email and we will
be happy to respond to your questions.
What
do you service?
A LASER PRINTER SERVICE is trained on most popular makes and models
of laser printer, inkjet printers, copiers and faxes. Feel free
to give us a call about your needs. If we can't help you then we
are likely to know where to send you for help.
My
printer, copier or fax is putting lines on the page. Do I need a
service call?
Lines on the page are indicative of several possible problems. Sometimes
it's as simple as changing the cartridge or having us clean the
unit. Those two solutions cure about 65% of all print problems.
The others may require a trained technician to replace some parts.

Will
you come to our location?
We
do service either at your location or ours. There is a significant
savings when you bring units in, however, in these busy times, most
people have us come to their location rather than take advantage
of the savings. A lot of times they decide to have some preventative
maintenance, like cleanings, done on additional units and make up
the savings by taking advantage of the discounts allowed for servicing
multiple units at the same time.
What
do you charge per hour for service?
Since
we service most printers, copiers, faxes and inkjets, both at your
location or ours, the rates will vary from $60 per hour to $185.
It's always less expensive if you bring the unit to us but most
customers find it more convenient to let us come to their location
even though it will cost a little more.
What
is your turn around time for service?
Our normal turn around is 24 hours, however, some of our
agreement customers have four-hour promises for service response.
For the latter, we try to deliver service in as little as 2 hours
in an attempt to exceed expectations. How good are we at it? Very!
We estimate
that the agreement customers receive about 99%, "as promised",
and close to the same for the balance of customers. We attempt to
resolve all service ASAP and are sensitive to our customers levels
of pain when something isn't working right.

What
area do you service?
Our basic area of service is Southern California,
including Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside/Sab /Bernardino counties, however we also offer Nationwide Service as well. In addition, we have several hundred partners that we co-op
with in order to service our accounts in the most
remote areas and we reciprocate service for companies that are remote
and have accounts in this area. We also act as a depot service provider
for local companies that don't have a service division or can't
service certain brands and models.
How
long will I have to do without my printer?
Most service jobs, even some of the more difficult ones,
can normally be performed within a minimum one-hour service call.
We will be fairly accurate with estimations of down times and charge
by 15 minute increments for additional time required. Some printers
require minimums of two hours and are quoted accordingly.
What
does a “SERVICE 50” message on my printer mean?
The “SERVICE 50” means that the fuser temperature
on your printer is below the critical temperature required to fuse
the toner to the page. Since there are several conditions that can
cause that message to appear, a technician is required to determine
which one or combination of conditions produced the message.

Will
a remanufactured or compatible cartridge harm my printer/inkjet?
For
laser printers, inkjets, faxes or copiers, the chances of any actual
harm, being caused by a remanufactured or compatible cartridge is
rare. A Laser Printer Service has never had a problem, however,
we do carry liability insurance to cover any such occurrence. Spills
of toner or ink can happen with any cartridge including new, refurbished
or compatible. Most responsible companies, such as A Laser Printer
Service, obligate us to clean equipment if any such thing should
occur.
How
often should my laser printer be serviced?
In
order to maximize the life of the printer, reduce jamming and maintain
the best possible print quality, the printer should be cleaned each
year. With very heavy usage it could be necessary as often as four
times per year. Realize, however, that quarterly cleanings are only
necessary for printers that print over 100k pages per year.
What
are the advantages of the ALPS Premium Plus Program?
It's
important to remember that most companies either don't qualify or
don't need anything as comprehensive as the APP Program. However,
for those who do, it's a great solution. ALPS takes care of everything
but paper. We do regular routine maintenance including all parts
and labor, priority service (maximum 4 hour response time), loaner
printers (if your's must be taken from your location) and all cartridges.

What
is the difference between a laser printer and an inkjet printer?
Both
printers have valid advantages. The inkjet usually requires less
of an investment up front, has a small footprint, has the color
option and is quite good for photo production. However, the cost
of producing a printed page is considerably more expensive.
The laser is
more of a production printer, however, you won't have the color
option unless you budget approximately $1000. It is fast, precise,
has a more professional appearance of pages printed, a low cost
per printed page, and very dependable under heavier loads.
It's best if
you let us evaluate your needs and lead you to the best alternative.
What
are the advantages of a laser printer over an inkjet?
Both
printers have advantages. However, the main criteria for making
a decision of one over the other may be determined by budget (laser
printers usually cost a lot more), requirements (what quality print
are you in need of), demand (how many prints per month will you
make), space (how large a foot print), speed (laser printers are
usually faster) and cost per page (inkjet has a much higher cost
per page.
If money is
no problem, you want great pictures no matter what the cost as fast
as you can get them, and space is no problem ... maybe you should
have a color laser in your home office for your hobby.

Is
buying a multi-function unit (combination copier, printer, scanner,
fax) a good idea?
Once
again, it will depend on your needs, space and budget. Sometimes
a single unit will suffice, however, you can easily spend a great
deal more on supplies for an MF machine in the process of printing
pages. They are always ink and ink is more expensive to operate.
I recommend
you let us evaluate your needs and assist you with the best decision
to meet them.
